2 Samuel 3:8

3:8 These words of Ish-bosheth really angered Abner and he said, “Am I the head of a dog that belongs to Judah? This very day I am demonstrating ¹  loyalty to the house of Saul your father and to his relatives ²  and his friends! I have not betrayed you into the hand of David. Yet you have accused me of sinning with this woman today! ³

Shimei Curses David and His Men

16:5 Then King David reached ⁴  Bahurim. There a man from Saul’s extended family named Shimei son of Gera came out, yelling curses as he approached. ⁵ 

2 Samuel 16:8

16:8 The Lord has punished you for ⁶  all the spilled blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you rule. Now the Lord has given the kingdom into the hand of your son Absalom. Disaster has overtaken you, for you are a man of bloodshed!”

2 Samuel 19:12

19:12 You are my brothers – my very own flesh and blood! ⁷  Why should you delay any further in bringing the king back?’

2 Samuel 19:28

19:28 After all, there was no one in the entire house of my grandfather ⁸  who did not deserve death from my lord the king. But instead you allowed me to eat at your own table! ⁹  What further claim do I have to ask ¹⁰  the king for anything?”

[3:8]  ² tn Heb “brothers.”

[3:8]  ³ tn Heb “and you have laid upon me the guilt of the woman today.”

[16:5]  ⁴ tn Heb “came to.” The form of the verb in the MT is odd. Some prefer to read וַיַּבֹא (vayyavo’), preterite with vav consecutive) rather than וּבָא (uva’), apparently perfect with vav), but this is probably an instance where the narrative offline vÿqatal construction introduces a new scene.

[16:5]  ⁵ tn Heb “And look, from there a man was coming out from the clan of the house of Saul and his name was Shimei son of Gera, continually going out and cursing.”

[16:8]  ⁶ tn Heb “has brought back upon you.”

[19:12]  ⁷ tn Heb “my bone and my flesh.”

[19:28]  ⁸ tn Heb “father.”

[19:28]  ⁹ tn Heb “and you placed your servant among those who eat at your table.”
